What is the process for commissioning a portrait?

Email julie.pfirsch@gmail.com attaching several photos and indicating which portrait option you would like to have done.  If you have a favorite trait or pose you want to capture in your portrait, please make note of it here and it will be incorporated into the piece.  A down payment of 50% is only required for oil on canvas portraits.  Once the portrait is finished, a digital proof is emailed, pending your approval.

Do you take the photos?  What should I keep in mind when selecting a photo?

Photos are provided by the patron.  Working from photos, it is very important to provide a high quality resolution image of the pet(s).  Please consider good lighting to show true coloring and clear focus for great detail especially of the eyes.  Also consider selecting a photo at eye level of the pet - this will avoid an awkward angle that will end up looking more like a photograph than a painting.  A single painting can be made from mulitple photo references.  For example, if you like the way your dog's ears look in photo 1 but want his smile from photo 2, a portrait can be made combining these features.  Additionally, multiple pets can be painted together using separate photos.  Should you have any questions as to what photo would make the best reference, please email julie.pfirsch@gmail.com for advice.

How do you decide what is the background color for oil on canvas portraits?

Background colors selected compliments the pet.  Should you have a preference, you may send a color request.  Keep in mind the artistic style plays off of a vivid, bold background.

Customer Testimonials

When I contacted Julie for her to do a sketch of our pug, I was really happy with how effortless it was. She responded fast, she offered various options, her price point was affordable and the end result was FANTASTIC. I really recommend her to any pet lover. Julie is truly talented and I'm so excited I decided to do this! You can tell she puts her love for pets in each portrait she makes! - Marie (and Pico) from San Francisco

First of all, I have to mention I have a serious pug product addiction. This means I have made a ton of product purchases over the internet, and I have to say buying from Julie has topped my list for quality and service. She took the time to sort through almost a dozen images I sent her to make suggestions on which ones would make the best final results. She emailed me some options to choose from. Throughout the process I felt she did a great job keeping me informed, and seemed to really make it her goal for me to love the final result. I couldn't be more happy with the sketch I received. It is even better in person because the different mediums she used (pen, colored pencil, ETC) really add to the overall depth of the image which is hard to see in a photo. To anyone considering making a purchase from Julie, I would highly recommended it! I have received a ton of compliments on my sketch, and think anyone would be happy with her work. Thanks again Julie!  - Kaleigh (and Buddha) from Indiana
